Autograf is back on the scene with the release of their new EP, “Love And Retrograde“. The trio, compromised of Louis Kha, Mikul Wing and Jake Carpenter, reached out to their fans on Instagram in March to inform them of the adversity the group has been faced with to explain the large gap between their last EP release.
“We know we’ve been quiet lately, but it’s almost time to drop our first EP in 3 years. We’ve faced personal hardships since our Future Soul EP was released…These misfortunes helped us grow as a group and reignited our love and passion for music. The songs we created in this dusk have brought so much joy and love into our lives. This creative catalyst has propelled us to construct our Love And Retrograde EP.”
The album contains a variety of electronic appeals, resulting in a richly diverse five-track album. The first track, “Test The Waters” featuring WYNNE, dives deeply into the ambient, lowfi sounds of electronic music with accompany vocals representing the emotional obstacles the group has been forced to overcome in recent years.
“Go out and test the water
I will push you further than you know
See every test gets harder
And every goal is further than the truth
Now I can see you’re tougher
You imitate my manners, they’re the same
I want to test your anger
And push you to the monster I became”
The next two tracks on the, “Retrograde” and “Casual Love”, featuring Australian indie rock band The Griswolds, lighten the vibe with more upbeat house styled dance music. The fourth track, “Hold Me Back”, maintains the positive energy, adding a mix of electronic pop and funk to the album. The fifth and final track, “Night Drive” closes with a deep house, club like feel, concluding the story of the album.
While Autograf has continued to produce content through hard times proving their true dedication as musicians, we are excited to have a new EP to get down to from this beloved trio!
