It is safe to say we have all been waiting for Chance to drop his debut album since his last mixtape Coloring Book released in 2016, and that wait is finally coming to an end.

While we have been blessed with some two amazing mixtapes, Acidrap and Coloring Book, Chance explains that this debut album is not meant to win the popularity contest. This album is for his fans.

“This my 1st album so its really good,” he wrote. “I got real famous so I gotta lotta eyes on me that wasn’t fans of me they just fans of whats popular. My first album is for my fans. I’ll always be immensely proud of what I did with “Coloring Book”, “Same Drugs”, “Summer Friends” and “Juke Jam” are some the realest songs I’ve ever written so u dont have to defend Coloring Book to me. It happened, it made history but I did it already. The album wont be acid rap either.”

Chance has not followed a traditional path in the music industry, working as an independent artist, and refraining signing with major record labels. His last mixtape, Coloring Book, had over 57 million streams on apple music. Despite his notable success, Chance never bought in to the money culture of hip hop, a reason for why he has kept his yet to sell his music.

“I never wanted to sell my music… because I thought putting a price on it put a limit on it and inhibited me from making a connection…I make money from touring and selling merchandise, and I honestly believe if you put effort into something and you execute properly, you don’t necessarily have to go through the traditional ways.”

So while the release of his debut album may not be simply profit oriented, he is giving his fans something tangible, to hold on to and cherish. This winter he prepared his fans to get ready for a July release, making it clear with posts on Instagram and Twitter. Chance is still holding on to the secretive album, ensuring a much anticipated release date. July is here and all we can do now is continue waiting patiently for more news on the album, which we still do not even know the name of. One thing we do know is that Chance is BACK and will be blessing us with an album to bump all summer long.

Stay tuned for more information!
