Can you take us back to your child hood days? What music did you listen to growing up? Did your taste in music change over time?
Growing up, I began playing guitar in sixth grade and then met friends in middle school who showed me bands like Coheed and Cambria, The Blood Brothers, and The Mars Volta which I was really inspired by. I developed a taste for classic rock, indie, and electronic music and began playing drums in high school. I was also introduced to STS9 mid high school which really opened my ears and my mind to what can be expressed through instrumental music and how it can speak and resonate in its own way. When I was 17, I bought the drum kit that I still play 10 years later. I would say my taste in music has changed and will continue to change, but that I still pay respects and have appreciation for all of the music that has captivated my ears and inspired me in the past even.
Why did you get into music production? What do you like about producing music?
I got into music production because I really enjoyed making loops with my loop pedal, guitar, and keyboards but would be sad when I would have to let go of something I worked hard on for a while, so once I could afford a computer that could handle what I was trying to accomplish, I got to work figuring out my work flow and my voice. I think I got serious about publishing the music that I had been working on and playing live after feeling like I was able to contribute something meaningful to the ethos of our time with my music.
Did any particular artists inspire you to produce music?
I would say Telefon Tel Aviv, STS9, Tycho, and Emancipator would be the main artists that Inspired me style wise in my approach.
What are some of your favorite current music producers?
I don’t listen to a ton of electronic music, but I’ve loved the stylings of Bonobo, Emancipator, Bibio, Aphex Twin, Flylo and Dilla and have dug the sound design of somewhat heavier artists like Koan Sound and Dave Tipper as well. There’s a ton of beautiful visions out there and I love hearing the wild creativity that is coming out of music production these days. I really like the deeper music that has some more melodic feels and has an uplifting or mystical vibe or something inspiring to share.
When did you start to develop your own sound?
Tough Q. I guess since I began listening to music! I suppose my sound is something that has been evolving and will continue to evolve. My sound and my ability to sculpt the textures that I see in my mind’s eye will only get sharper as I continue to hone my craft as a musician/composer/beat maker/producer/arranger.
What are some of your upcoming projects?
I am always working on creating new flows for my live shows and put a lot of time into making each of my shows a unique experience. Studio wise, I currently am in the process of finishing up the writing process for my next release, which I believe will be an LP. Release date TBD.
What advice do you have for aspiring artists looking to find their way in the music world?
Create and share your music from a place of love and compassion. Do what you can to learn from any situation and try and be the best version of yourself on all fronts and the best of you will come out when you are expressing yourself in the studio and in a live setting when you are sharing your music and interacting with the community.
Is there anything else you would like to inform your fans about, so they can get to know you better?
I really just care about all the world’s people and want to do what I can to elevate our consciousness and connected-ness.
