Michal Menert just wrapped up a 4-night run of Colorado shows this past weekend, with support from Super Best Records mates Krooked Drivers, The BeatServer, and AC Lao on drums.  Vail, Aspen, Fort Collins, and Colorado Springs were all served up a heavy helping of Hairtronica from the man known as the Godfather of Pretty Lights Music & the founder of Super Best Records.

Saturday night was the Hometown Throwdown at the Aggie Theater with Michal returning back to his roots in Fort Collins.  Producer/DJ TwoScoopS provided early crowd entertainment, followed up by SBR’s own FoCo local The BeatServer with his old school flavored turntablism.  Krooked Drivers rounded out the support lineup, coming out fresh with the new single “No Worries” from their upcoming EP release “Still Life” (dropping March 31st on Super Best Records).  Donnie & Maddy thrilled the crowd with a few tracks from the recent “Finding the Way – Remixed” release as well.

The packed Aggie was moving and grooving to old and new tracks alike from Michal.   As expected he dropped a few unreleased tracks off the highly anticipated Space Jazz release, indicating collaboration with Borahm Lee (Break Science), Dominic Lalli (Big Gigantic), and Will Glazier (WilldaBeast/SnugHarbor/MM Big Band) among others. Midway through the set Michal brought surprise guest Paul Basic onstage and they hammered out pieces of the latest Half Color release “Dream Season”, to include “Last Orbit”, “Divvy Up”, and “Drifter”.

A treat of any live Menert performance is the setbreak where he belts out his own hip-hop rooted freestyle flow – Saturday night was no exception to this.  An added layer to his overall sets on this mini tour was Michal’s own live vocals on tracks, and not just limited to his vocals on the recent release “Everything Shines”.

The icing on the cake for this FoCo homecoming was Michal’s performance of “Finally Moving”, bringing him – and the entranced crowd – back full circle to his earlier days of Pretty Lights Music.  This indeed was a night drenched in Menert’s love and soulful appreciation for his fans and the music that brought us all together.

Colorado, your next chance to catch Michal Menert locally will be on April 25th as the Michal Menert Big Band returns for their first performance at Red Rocks, supporting headliner Savoy.
