It has been three years now since the genre defying future bass pioneer Flume has released a full EP. His last album, Skin, took the world by storm, and awarded Harley (Flume) his first Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album, with tracks like “Never Be Like You“, “Say It“, “Smoke and Retribution” and more.
Fast-forward to 2019 and it seems highly likely that Flume will as he put in his Instagram be, “Back in our lives”, with more than he has already given us.
While Flume has released a bunch of new content this year, including his Mixtape, “Hi This is Flume,” and two singles, “Friends” and “Let me Know“, we highly suspect a new EP is waiting to break the charts once again. His Mixtape featured a variety of extremely experimental sounds, giving us all a reminder that Flume remains passionate about exploring infinitely new and undiscovered sounds that make people feel something that have never felt before. Simply put, Flume is always looking forward and never into the past, providing justifiable reason as to why it has been three years since he has released a new album. However, Flume’s new singles, Friends and Let you Know, gave us a familiar taste of his crisp drums and unique synthesized bass, and can’t help but make us feel like we are seeing a trail of breadcrumbs leading to something more fulfilling. That being, an LP or EP that can satisfy our ravenous appetite for more Flume tracks at least for the time being.
On Friday, August 2nd Flume kicks off his worldwide tour at the Osheaga Music Festival in Montreal, Canada, which will last through mid November. We know Flume is not going to repeat the same production he put together for his last tour, and the just over an hour duration Mixtape combined with his new singles won’t be enough to fill a new performance set list. For an artist that highly values sounds of the future, we can only anticipate that his new tour will contain once again, sounds we have never heard from our beloved, corky and inspirational future bass hero.
