TNERTLE is winding down the summer and prepping for an active fall with a relaxed, chilled-out single “The Last Sunset” to be released TOMORROW. The live electro-funk ensemble sold out The Bluebird Theater this spring and the track comes ahead of a headlining performance at Denver’s new Levitt Pavilion that presents over 50 concerts a year in the beautiful 7,500-person amphitheater in Ruby Hill Park.
Birthed on producer/composer Trent Campbell’s Prophet 6 with complementary bass tones added on a Moog SubPhatty, the song was originally composed in 2015. During a marathon 18-song session during summer 2018, Campbell brought in members of the live band to flesh the song out and breathe new life into it. (Leah Concialdi on the saxophone, Alice Hansen on the trumpet, Jon Kenney on the trombone and Ty Hughes on the guitar) The live drums accentuate the energy, the guitar weaves in and out of sections spicing it up with melodic tidbits, and the gigantic unison horn parts and vocal samples give the track an old-school, classic vibe with a reggae bass fusion summer twist.
The name “The Last Sunset” was inspired by the feeling of when you are catching the last sunset before leaving for somewhere else the next day. For me it reminded me of a lot of sunsets I’ve seen around the world and perhaps Enzo and his friends laying eyes on the last sunset on their soon to be former planet,” Cambell remarks.
The nod to ‘Enzo’ is in reference to the group’s programmatic full-length album Burning Down the Sun released in November 2018 that depicts a song-by-song journey of a turtle named Enzo who must burn down the sun in order to save his species. The album received praise from Riverbeats, Denver Westword, The Sights & Sounds, 303 Magazine, The Marquee, and more.
“The Last Sunset’s” release sets the stage for an active fall season. In addition to the Levitt headliner in September, the group will be joining The Magic Beans as direct support at The Summit for their annual Halloween show on October 26th and will be embarking on a Colorado Halloween run with dates in Steamboat Springs, Carbondale, and Buena Vista. In addition, TNERTLE has proudly joined the roster at Rogue Agency and will be announcing new dates soon.
